Why does Kosovo want it's independance to Serbia?

The kosavars by and large are ethnic albanians. The serbs are not. Why leave? A couple of years ago the serbs supported militias that went into Albanians houses and drug them into the front yard to shoot them. Golly. Hard to believe they want to leave. By the way...serbs are christian and Albanians are muslim...go figure what the problem is.
